Well, this is our hero. Looks like we need some re-coloring, let's go!

Easy part of work: frame

Hi marmot. I don´t know what i like more - your Avatar (great animation film) or the model you´ve choosen .
Well about the model, i´ve started it two years ago but interrupted my building report due to some heavy problems -> Hobby Modell 86, Sukhoi SU-39 (1/2005), 1:33
But the fitting problems are the smaller problem. There are a lot of colour mistakes. But maybe you have also corrected them when you refreshed the colours? This would be great, because i tried it by myself but stopped because of a lack of know how .
Wish you the very best for this model. I will watch closely, because this is one of my favourite planes.

Most of color mismatches was corrected, and I make an "alfa-build" of the fuselage to ensure right color alignment.

H-m-m, printed parts looks a bit darker then it should be.
-
Nose cone and cockpit are ready
-
Yes, it looks really good - also the recoloured cockpit. And you´ve also added the bear on the nose cone. Nice detail :super: .
A few questions:
- Have you modified part 6D together with the recolouring or between the build? It looks like you´ve shortened part 6D and therefor added a few mm at the front end of part 7D.
- What was your procedure when building the middle section? I had some major fitting problems as i´ve builded it part after part. At the next try, i´ve connected the three parts (6D, 7D and 8D) befor glueing them to the frame. And that worked better. Can´t wait to see the next pictures .

Yes, because of this is the right place for the bear, not engine.QuoteOriginally posted by zec

Exactly. I've remove this strange hollow in 7D and 6D fits wellQuoteOriginally posted by zec

Yes, it is more simple way, but it is potentially may cause a new problem: wrong shape of completed surface. I suggest that a frame have a correct shape and skinning should have the same shape. Then I build segment by segment. Every next segment should be cutted, trimmed and fitted until fit would be acceptable. If segment too small or short, i've enlarge and reprint it, so I have a space to trim and cut again. One more problem with "pre-joined" segments is misalignment of formers and joints, so former can be placed not in thick joint place but on the single layer of paper of the segment (really actual for the Hobby Model's precision ), so you will have the edge on this segment. -

Yes, this could be a problem.
But as i can see, it works with the segment by segment method also. The fuselage looks nearly flawless, especially for a Hobby Model-model. -
Engines, fit is terrible, a lot of work needed.
-
but a great result!
keep on with whis great work, this will be a wonderful plane!

Definitely 8) .It seems that part 12a made most of the problems?

Wingtips (airbrakes)
-
Good to see, that the parts of the wing have a nice fit.

Tail started

... and finished

Hi marmot,
Very exactly and clean work, =D> =D>

Time to build canopy. First of all I've made an alabaster mold.
-
And then vacuum forming magic.
-
Cockpit completed
-
Well, the recoloured parts and some addons do really enhance the cockpit.
Please post some photos of the whole plane . I´m really curious about the look in this stage of the build. -

Thank you for your building report, marmot, I got also the Hobby Model Su-39 yesterday. I was a little bit afraid about the rather high level of difficulty, but your report with these good pictures, gives me hope to bring this project to success.
(I know, its a very late answer -_-)
